The Smash
A classic Smash is defined as a fortified wine (or really any kind of base spirit can be used) muddled with lemon, mint, and sugar. That’s it. Add any spirits, fruit, or syrups to your heart’s content.
40 Classic Bourbon Smash
4 lemon wedges
1 ounce simple syrup
4 or 5 mint leaves, plus sprig for garnish
2 ounces whiskey or bourbon
In a rocks glass, muddle the lemon wedges with the simple syrup and mint leaves. Add the whiskey and top with ice. Pour into a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into the rocks glass and top with ice. Garnish with the mint sprig.
